VACATIONS - HOLIDAYS - SCHOOL CANCELLATIONS

We follow the Webster Public School calendar except for Professional Days.  School bulletins and special notices will be sent home throughout the year announcing any schedule changes.  All cancellations or delays are announced on the following:

ABSENCES AND MAKE-UP WORK – TARDINESS AND DISMISSALS

·

·         Students are responsible for obtaining and completing all make-up work when absences occur.  If an assignment is given before the student is absent and due on the day the student is absent, it is to be turned in the day the student returns to school.  (A student who is absent for one day has one day to make up the missed work.  Two days absent, two days to make up, etc.)  Late make-up work will result in a grade penalty.

·         Please plan trips during the scheduled vacation periods.  Any additional vacation time taken must be marked as an unexcused absence.

·         For extended absences, a five (5) day limit is placed on make-up work.  Please do not ask for assignments before the material has been presented in class. A report card may be withheld until the teachers have ample time to grade make-up work.

·         Please note:  Parents MUST call the school office (508-943-2735) to report a child’s absence.  Please call between 8:30 AM and 9:00 AM.    This is a mandatory policy for the protection of your children.  Messages may be left on the answering machine.

·         ALL Parents/Visitors MUST enter through the main (front) entrance at all times and stop at the office to receive a visitor’s pass.

·         When a child is tardy, he/she must report to the office upon entering the building.

·         For early dismissal, students should report to the office before leaving the building and upon returning.

BUS/BUS SUSPENSIONS

·         WEBSTER SCHOOL BUSES SERVING THE PRIVATE SCHOOLS TRANSPORT ONLY PRIVATE SCHOOL STUDENTS.  BUS SCHEDULES APPEAR IN THE LOCAL NEWSPAPERS.

·         If your child receives a BUS BEHAVIOR CARD, he/she will receive a ONE-WEEK BUS SUSPENSION.  A second offense results in a two-week suspension, etc.  PLEASE STRESS THE IMPORTANCE OF GOOD BUS BEHAVIOR AND BUS SAFETY WITH YOUR CHILD.

·        General Conduct on the report card will be affected by bus behavior.

 Top

PARENT/ TEACHER CONFERENCES:  Please feel free to contact any teacher for a conference by setting up an appointment.  By calling the office, a message will be given to the teacher and she, in turn, will contact the parent as soon as possible.  We respect the teachers’ home privacy by not giving out their home phone numbers.  PLEASE DO NOT CALL TEACHERS AT HOME.

SCHOOLBAGS AND  BOOK  COVERS  ARE  REQUIRED of all students in grades K

through 8.  Books are not allowed out of the building unless they are covered and in a waterproof schoolbag. Please do not use contact/sticky-type book covers on school-owned/hard cover textbooks. Do not tape covers to hard covered books. Nothing should be attached to the outside of schoolbags.

SAINT ANNE SCHOOL is NOT responsible for valuables / money brought to school.

HOMEWORK is necessary and important in every student’s life.  Please encourage your child to take pride in neat and carefully completed assignments by giving your valuable guidance.  Assignment pads, tests, graded papers and notices requiring signatures must be signed before the students enter the building.

Independent STUDY at home is a must.  Students cannot make adequate progress without daily study and review of class notes and discussions.

The following DAILY STUDY STEPS (to be adjusted according to your child’s grade level) ARE A MEANS OF DEVELOPING SUCCESSFUL STUDY SKILLS:

·         Go over returned papers.  Read teachers’ comments.

·         ANALYZE your mistakes in order to improve your understanding.

·         Reread and file handouts and study guides.

·         Go over class notes.  Copy them over if necessary.

·         Do all written assignments.

·         Review daily any material on which you have NOT been quizzed or tested.

·         Work on long-term assignments or projects.

·         Practice foreign language 15 minutes daily. (Grades 5-8)

·        Practice penmanship 15 minutes daily. (Grades K-4)

A DETENTION ROOM has been established to avoid after-school transportation problems.  A child will be assigned “D-Room” after lunch to complete unfinished assignments, makeup work, or discipline assignments when a behavior problem has occurred. Three detentions for incomplete homework or unsatisfactory behavior will result in an N (Improvement Needed) or U (Unsatisfactory) on the report card for the class/subject where the problem exists, including the area of general conduct.  Teachers may choose to issue a detention slip or write a note to parents in the assignment pad used by grades 3 through 8.

TUITION / WORK COMMITMENT

All parents are required to sign a tuition payment schedule and work commitment agreement on a yearly basis.  Please honor your commitment and pay tuition promptly.

HOME SCHOOL NOTICES

During the school year, school bulletins and other various announcements will be sent home with the oldest child in your family.  Please read them carefully, post them if necessary, and return the signed portion to school with your child.  The teachers and the office keep track of returned slips.

Your promptness will be greatly appreciated.

COMMUNICATION

In our school community, misunderstandings may occur.  It is always better to clarify a situation directly rather than spread untruths and discontent.  It is our policy at Saint Anne’s that if parents have a question, they discuss it first with the teacher involved, and then, if necessary, with the principal.

Effective communication helps administration, teachers, and parents to act as an effective team for the sake of our children.  Our goal is our children’s sound religious, moral, intellectual, physical, and emotional development.  When home and school mirror and support each other concerning the Christian values taught, the religious concepts practiced, and the educational activities learned, our children reap the maximum benefit.

PARKING

·       Please avoid parking in either of our two recess yards.  We must keep the two yards clear for recesses and outside class activities.

·       NO PARKING at ANY TIME near the sidewalk in front of the school building as this area is reserved for staff parking.

·       In the morning, please drop off students at the corner of Day Street.

·       Do NOT drive down Day Street.

·       Please instruct children of the need to look both ways when crossing a street.  This is especially necessary when crossing Day Street to the school yard.

·       All parent helpers must park in the Emmaus parking lot at the top of the street.
